The first backyard project was pulling out the ivy. The second was painting the fence. The third was what you see here, a fully armed and operational patio cover/arbor that I designed and built pretty much all by myself. The idea came about when it was looking like the house next door (which had stood vacant from the time we moved in till late spring the following year) was finally getting some tenants. We didn't like the fact that their bedrooms looked right into our backyard. Some sort of privacy screen was needed. I looked at a bunch of patio cover designs, them mushed them altogether for what you see here. I think it turned out great! It is now covered in Honeysuckle, but this shot was taken right after we finished it. Kel did help me nail the 2x2s to the top, and I had some limited help holding up the initial boards while bolting them in place, but other than that it was a single-handed job (no it was BEFORE I broke my wrist silly). I'm pretty damned proud of it. One of these days I oughtta water-seal it....
