In October 1994 we began the biggest remodeling project the house has ever undergone. The roof. What a fun job... NOT! We're really happy we did it tho. The roof leaked, and the the patio was unusable when it rained. We consulted with our Contractor friend, Lester "Jim" Bangs and decided that the best way to solve all of the roof problems was to rebuild it completely. The original was a shake roof which had composite shingles nailed over it 25 years ago. Messy tear off. We took it right down to the skip sheeting, then, with immense help from Jim, constructed a new rafter system which raised the peak 4 feet and moved it back 6. This allowed us to cover the back side of the house entirely. We gained a completely covered patio area, and hella storage space above the bedroom. It also made the house look much more symmetrical. This shot was taken the day we lifted the new 20 foot 4x12 header into place. Heavy man.
