There are 3 ways to get to Catalina. One is as cargo in a DC-3. You'll see one of those in a later shot. The most popular way is by ferry. It takes about an hour to cross the channel. We took the 3rd way, a helicopter! It was our first copter ride and it was fabu. Took only 15 minutes from Long Beach to the island (with a brief stop in San Pedro to pick up another couple. We took lots of pics from the air due to the novelty of it all.
