We took a train up to Edinburgh from York on April 3rd. It was a really nice trip, with a lot of it right along the coast. It reminded me of driving down Highway 1 here in California...'cept for all the sheep. Tall cliffs, crashing waves, the whole thing. Arrived in Edinburgh shortly after noon and took a cab to The Town House Bed & Breakfast. It was just outside the Old Town with a pretty good view of Edinburgh Castle and a Brewery. We spent 4 days there but could have spent more. Things that stick out from that leg of our trip: Edinburgh buildings have yet to be cleaned of 300 years worth of soot. It's the hilliest city we've ever seen in the UK, very SF. It was MUCH nicer touring in the sunshine than the sleet we'd just left in York. We took a really fun Ghost Tour done by Mercat Tours. There are about 5 different companies that do them... this one was great, don't know about the others. 1 major D'oh was that the guide demonstrated a flogging on me and Kel couldn't take a picture... the camera was in MY pocket! On our 3rd day here we took a day trip up to Inverness to see Loch Ness which was really fun and detailed in my Highlands section.
