With each new landscaping project, we generated tons of dirt. We had to put it somewhere and just knew we wanted to eventually put in a raised flower bed, so we began to heap the stuff up right in the middle of the front yard. We lived with that empty mound for a couple of years before we finally bit the bullet and constructed the new flower bed in April/May 1996. Stealing an idea from Kel's Dad, we used "Urban-Rock", more familiarly known as broken patio concrete, for the wall which extends around about a third of the mound. Later on we added railroad ties to go around the rest, having depleted our original supply of rock. I also extended the drip system at this time and gave myself lots of extra quads to work with (see I DO learn).
