That back brace was a last minute addition. It's not a very big drop behind the bench but falling backwards and landing on your head would really increase our homeowners insurance. Plus I had an extra 2x6 (don'tcha hate it when there are parts left over after putting something together??). It makes that bench really comfy. The back bench has the fence to lean against.
