The Tokyo Disney Resort, like all the others, has instituted designated smoking areas, but we couldn't find them on any of the guide maps available online before arriving. I put together an entire sub-section in my Disneyland section showing where all the smoking areas are because in CA they are far and few between. I had planned on doing the same for TDR but once we arrived we figured out why they aren't on the maps... They are all about 25 feet apart.
Now before all you smoking nazis hate-mail me, I just wanna say that we really have no problem with designated smoking areas in the parks. In the old days we used to have a hard time finding ashtrays in the parks so had to take great care when putting them out and throwing them in trash cans. We can always find an ashtray in a smoking area. Smoking areas also allow us to smoke without bothering anybody else but fellow smokers, which is cool with us. What we don't like is when we have to walk halfway across the park before finding a place to smoke, like in Anaheim.
Here's another note: We rarely saw any butts in the ashtrays at TDR. Not because there weren't any smokers, but because there tended to be a CM nearby who would immediately empty, spray and wipe out each one every 10 minutes. It got to the point where we were really surprised one time when we arrived at a smoking area and there WAS a butt in an ashtray!
