Welp we got to Southampton via train and immediately went of to the TIC to find a room. Once there we were informed that there were, in fact, NO rooms available in Southampton due to the big graduation going on at the college. That very same college that Matt attended. Did he tell us there was a graduation going on so we could reserver a room in advance? Nooooooo. Turns out he didn't know either :)
The closest we could get was this really nice B&B about 20 miles away. This meant we had to turn right back around after arriving and take the bus into town in order to meet with Matt for dinner... After dinner we followed him around to various bus stops looking for one that would take us back. We failed so we flagged down a cab.
The Granby was gorgeous and we highly recommend it if you've rented a car... The room was spacious, the breakfast solarium was beautiful and the food was superb. Met another couple who were due to board the QE2 that day as well. We bumped into them several times on-board, usually when we got up early for coffee.
