Kel had a brilliant idea: Since our flight home was leaving so early (10:00am) out of Heathrow we should get a room in one of the hotels right next to the airport for our last night. This worked out great. After doing some final shopping in London, we grabbed our bags from a spare room at the Oxford Hotel then strolled over to Paddington Station, where we grabbed the Heathrow Express to the airport. From there we bought shuttle tickets to and from the Heathrow Ibis, a 10 minute coach ride.
We checked in, and went up to the... you got it! the Top Floor. :) They had a lift though so no problem. The room was quite large and, as you can see, had a great view of one of the runways. We thought it odd that we couldn't hear any jets, until we opened one pane of the double windows. Roar. Then we opened the outer window: ROAR!!!. There was nothing good on TV (we REALLY missed Dish Network) so we watched planes take off and land. Had dinner in the restaurant downstairs then kicked back till bedtime. Got up early and checked out. Took the shuttle to the airport with time to spare. Our flight was delayed a little bit but not bad. We again had lots of movies and stuff to choose from. This flight was entirely in daylight though so we didn't sleep. Saw some good flicks, Galaxy Quest,the most recent Bond, and Being John Malkavich which were great. Arrived at SFO at about 2:30, and found our shuttle home. Unlike last time, we came home to a completely clean house. Kudos to Josh, our house-sitter. The kittens missed us. Took 4 of the 5 rolls of film in to be developed so we could have them to inflict on our friends the next day. We were really tired, but MADE ourselves stay up till 9:00. The next day those of us with a job went back to work.
