For a little over half our trip we traveled with the 2 boats tied together. Only one of the two is powered by the way. The Dawn was our 'Motor' while the Dusk was it's 'Butty'. While tied together like this, or 'abreast' we were easily able to go from one boat to the other. When things got narrow on the canal we would have to 'single-out', where the motor would pull ahead of the butty and tow it. Up side of begin abreast was the ability to pop over to the dining room and having a really nice view from the bow. Downside was that the actual engine was right next to our cabin so naps were tricky if not impossible. When singled out naps were easy. Downside was that the bow of the butty would then be right behind the engine and it's diesel exhaust.
