British Waterways, the agency in charge of the maintenance and upkeep of the canals, was having a bad day. A tree fell into the canal. A stolen car was driven into the canal, and now a broken lock paddle... all on a Sunday! (They were to have bigger problems later.. when lightening struck the pumps and shut them down for 2 days.... More on THAT later.

Anyway, 2 guys from BW showed up after about an hour of sitting around and quickly 'fixed' the paddle. I put fixed in quotes because all they did was pour hydraulic fluid into it. It obviously had a leak but that was left for another day I guess. We got through no prob after that and got back on schedule. Nothing could slow us down now! (that's foreshadowing BTW).
