Well they got a great spot right in front of the first lock! Uh oh.. Locks are locked! This is when we found out the bad news. A lightening strike had taken out the pump that feeds water to the top of the flight and the levels are so low they are not letting anyone up or down. I should probably mention here that the Caen Hill Flight is a series of 16 or so locks, one right after the other, that change the elevation of the canal by 200 feet. Once you are in it there's no turning back and no good place to moor. Anyway, word came down that they would be closed for the next 2 days due to low water levels which really screwed the pooch as far as we were concerned. We'd been looking forward to going through these.
