I can't imagine how long this would have taken if we'd used nails. I found some really spiffy-keeno deck screws that are dyed the same color as the wood. They worked great once we procured the correct bits for them. They ate about a dozen before I went off to the hardware store AGAIN. They worked so well in fact, Andrew has decided to use screws for his entire deck, substructure and all.
