Our tour guide, Atsuko, was wonderful, especially for translating signs and explaining a lot of the other cultural references seen at the museum (and on the way). It did take her about an hour to figure out that we were animation geeks though. It finally clicked when she was explaining to us how a multiplane camera works and we went on and on with way more details than she needed to know. By the end of the tour she was improving her tour by asking us how stuff worked and how the movies are recieved in the states :). We actually got a lot more info about Japanese culture, and basics, like train navigation and signs, than we did about Miyazaki.
